The Ruminating Brain
What is a? Ruminating Brain?
Ruminating brains are like a washing machine in your head that is always agitating. It spins day and night. 24/7.
Typically, a ruminating brain causes a person’s mind to spin in many of the following ways (check any that apply to you):
Your Ruminating Brain Keeps your mind busy with the past
It corrects perceived errors.
It is irritated by missed opportunities.
It replays failures, and it fucks-ups.
It dwells on regret for bad decisions.
It holds on to any perceived slights or wounds.
It is back “what only’s” And “only if’s.”
It creates a case for you and keeps reminding you of your inadequacy.
Your Ruminating Brain Keeps your mind busy thinking about the future
It fears repeating the same mistakes.
It is dominated primarily by fear, worry, and anxiety.
It convinces you it is gathering information to make significant decisions, but it’s really just spinning.
It can keep you in the paralysis and analysis.
It convinces you that you can’t act until you’ve considered every possible outcome of every possible action.
It regularly rehearses potential conversations and scenarios.
It lives in the universe of “what if” We can see every possible negative outcome in any situation or action.
It assumes that there is an ideal way to do everything and that failure is not possible.
Even when things are going well, it’s anticipating the other shoe falling.
It assumes that your futurity will reflect your past.
Your Ruminating Brain Keeps Your Mind Spinning About Your Perceived Inadequacies and Others’ Opinions of You:
It compares you with others and makes you feel inadequate or insignificant (and sometimes, grandiosely better).
It uses its own unrealistic expectations and arbitrarily measures you.
It can remember every error, but it forgets the most successful ones.
It is obsessed with what other people think of you.
It expects perfection in all you do.
It convinces you that you’re an imposter and fraud and that it’s only a matter of time before you’re found out.
It lives for others’ affirmation and approval but can’t believe or accept them when they come.
It is afraid of failure and looks foolish.
It is constantly afraid of being rejected and abandoned.
The Madness
Obsessing over the past, living for the future, and comparing the self to others leads to feelings of worthlessness and failure. It paralyzes and hinders you from acting boldly in the best interest of your self. It makes you feel isolated and lonely. It makes you think you have to overcompensate and exceed people’s expectations in order to be loved and liked (and get laid). It makes you blind to the opportunities and open doors around you. It prevents you from living in abundance and deprivation.
Your Mind is a Liar
Your mind lies all the time to you – this is a psychological and neurological fact.
Your reality, perceptions and memories are distorted by your mind. It easily convinces you that you’re a worthless, unlovable person, and that the world is a scary, unforgiving place. It is not afraid to find all the evidence it needs to back up its beliefs and ignore any information that might be contrary (Confirmation Bias).
Why is your mind like this?
It is because of your brain type.
The brain is where the mind lives. It thinks, believes and acts on your thoughts. This is dependent on how your brain wired.
You most likely have a if you nodded like an idiot as you read the above lists. Ruminating Brain.
Your ruminating brain may have been passed on to you from your parents, just like your body type, height and eye color. Take a look at your parents and their mothers and fathers. Did any struggle with self?-Do you have doubts, anxiety, mood disorders, fear, criticalness or controlling behavior? You might have inherited their ruminating brain.
Your brain might have been wired early in your life to ruminate to manage fear, anxiety, sadness, unpredictability, abandonment or abuse. Your brain is very intelligent. “plastic” It was flexible and adaptable as a child, and your environment strongly influenced its physical form and function.
Your brain is wired differently depending on whether it was genetically predisposed or wired in a way that allows you to manage your childhood experiences. Your mind will spin and ruminate often in negative ways about yourself and others.

You believe everything your mind says about you.
However, it’s often incorrect!
For example, your mind can tell you it’s a good idea to take a specific action and then later beat the hell out of you for doing so:
“Sure, eat that last doughnut.”
“You are such a loser! I can’t believe you would do something so stupid!”
Your mind is able to see and replay a mistake over and over. Your mind will convince you that your mistake was a fundamental error and that you must avoid making similar mistakes in the future. Your mind will convince yourself that you are a good person.-It is important to do it right every time.
The same mind who thinks about your thoughts will criticize you for thinking them and, God forbid, for actually acting on them.
Here’s an important reality: the mind always believes everything it tells itself is true.
It doesn’t matter what your mind thinks, it will be true.
This is human nature.
Here’s an example. Imagine that you see a beautiful woman and want to talk to her. Your mind spins. It warns you that you may be rejected by this woman and will feel foolish. But it also tells you that if you don’t approach her, you’ll always regret it.
If you manage to get the nerve to approach her and are rejected, your mind will beat you up and dwell on how stupid you are. It keeps reminding you of this. “I told you so! What were you thinking? Women like that don’t go for losers like you.”
If you believe your mind’s warnings and avoid approaching her, then of course nothing happens, and your brain reinforces the faulty belief that women just aren’t attracted to you. It points out that you don’t have a woman in your life, so it must be true that that women can tell you are a loser. Then every night before you go to sleep, your mind imagines all the ways in which she might have been the perfect woman for you if you weren’t such a coward and a loser and could actually talk to women.
Are you ready to give up?
The Good News
Your mind may convince you that you’re defective and unlovable – but it is wrong!
Your brain may have a programming flaw, but you don’t!
Realizing that you aren’t defective – and that the belief that you are comes from blindly accepting the distorted messages your mind constantly replays – can be one of the most emotionally liberating messages you could ever receive!
You are not broken! This is a lie you have believed.
How to Stop The Madness
You can learn to be an observer of what you think, and not a believer.
The human mind can be observed, which is one of the most beautiful and unique aspects about it. It can observe its thoughts, feelings and beliefs.
Your mind doesn’t care what it spins about. It’s often just ruminating about familiar, habitual topics. It enjoys following well-worn neural goat paths.
You can pay attention to your thoughts, emotions, and memories. Then, choose the things you focus on.
If you don’t, it will.
Mindfulness and the proven principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can help you slow down your mind, examine it, challenge it, redirect it – even laugh at – and transform your worst critic into your strongest ally.
