Permaculture Bill Mollison, founder of the first Permaculture Established in 1979 to teach practical application of Permaculture design. It was located on a 147-Tagari Farm, a farmstead of 6,000 acres located in Northern NSW. Australia. Bill Mollison is co-Permaculture was founded by the founder, first described in the book ‘Permaculture One’1978. Bill asked the following question after he retired in October 1997. Geoff To establish and direct a new institute for the property. Geoff The Farm was developed over three years by the two of them.-Year period. This time period, Geoff Established the Permaculture Research Institute, which we all love and know today, was moved to Zaytuna Farm after three years.
Zaytuna Farm can be found on a 60-acre parcel.-A six-acre (27 hectares), property fronting Terania Creek opposite The Channon, Northern NSW. There are 800m of creek frontage on the property, as well as numerous swimming holes and abundant wildlife. High frost covers the landscape.-Free hilltops, valleys, and ridges with cleared paddocks or forested areas.
Zaytuna farm is a permaculture demonstration and education farm. It is constantly in development. There is always new and evolving research on the ground. Work is ongoing to create more productive and efficient systems. The farm is situated in Northern New South Wales, where students can learn while they work in a real permaculture gardening and farming environment. The program includes classroom instruction and daily farm tasks. Students will interact and care for various farm systems including trees, animals, plants, water, waste and recycling. Other tasks include designing the landscape, testing soil, making compost, natural fertilizers, and conducting basic surveying.
The property has an integrated water harvesting system that includes multiple dams, lakes, and ponds. It also features gravity irrigation. Farm electricity can be generated entirely off grid using a generator backup. All toilets have state-of-the art composting toilets. All grey waste systems are approved by the local authority as natural biological cleaning systems.

You will find a variety of buildings at the site including a straw bale construction home, a bamboo bale building home, a mud-lime plastered straw bale and repurposed shipping containers with passive sun venting metal roofs. There is also s commercial kitchen, student launderette, an internet cafe with student cooking area, as well as an open space classroom with dining area. A variety of size metal industrial farm sheds are available, from very large to very small, housing the main tool room and main farm workshop, the machinery storage, the farm office, camping shelters and feed stores. All these facilities have been approved by the local government.
Zinc-Allum metal roofing can be used to harvest rainwater and is pumped into water tanks. It then flows to a tank at its top and supplies water at high pressure to the entire property.
There is a wide variety of fresh vegetables and herbs on the farm. They also produce eggs and meat from chickens. All animals processed for food are carefully and humanely killed, butchered, and prepared for consumption.
There are many options for bamboo production, including food and timber, as well as farm forestry and reforestation projects.
Zaytuna Farm was first Master Plan site, but with The Permaculture Research Institute’s mission, many more have since flourished.
