Bessel A. van der Kolk, M.D., is a clinician, researcher and teacher in the area of post-Traumatic Stress. His research combines the psychological, developmental, and psychodynamic aspects of trauma and its treatment.
Dr. van der Kolk He and his collaborators have written extensively about the impact trauma has on development. This includes borderline personality, self-harm, and dissociative issues.-Cognitive development, trauma, mutilation, and memory. Over 150 peer-reviewed scientific papers have been published on diverse topics, including neuroimaging and self-injury, memory and neurofeedback, Developmental Trauma. Yoga, theater, and EmDR.
He is the founder of Brookline’s Trauma Center and the President of the Trauma Foundation, which supports educational, scientific and clinical projects.
His 2014 #1 New York Times Best seller The Body is the Keeper of the Score: Brain and Mind are involved in Trauma Treatment, transforms our understanding of traumatic stress, revealing how it literally rearranges the brain’s wiring – specifically areas dedicated to pleasure, engagement, control, and trust. He demonstrates how these areas can reactivated using innovative treatments such as neurofeedback and somatically based therapies like EMDR, psychodrama or yoga.
Dr. van der Kolk The former president of International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. He is also a professor of psychology at Boston University Medical School. He is a regular lecturer at universities and hospitals all over the globe.
