Many children who receive special education and rehabilitation services have had multiple experiences. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), which may not be recognised or addressed by service provider. You will learn: the biological/neurological effects of trauma; the effects of ACEs on children’s cognitive, language and social-emotional development; caregiver-Child interventions to encourage attunement, affect management, and child intervention strategies that promote resilience and foster developmental skills for Self-regulation. You will learn a framework that requires an integration of cognition/language and temperament/sensory/regulation factors. Interventions combine a mindfulness/mindsight approach for Both children and caregivers.Â

Carol WestbyCCC-SLP, PhD, BCS-CL, ASDCS, She is an internationally recognized expert in the field of play assessment and development for children. She is the Developer the renowned Westby Symbolic Play Scale is a research-based scale used to assess children’s social and play skills. Dr. Westby Project PLAY (Play and Language Attunement of Young) was written and implemented by the author. Children(), which trains caregivers in increasing their effectiveness. the Language, theory of mind and play.
Dr. Westby Is a friend of the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), has been Board Certified Child Language and Literacy disorders, and has received the Geneva College and the Distinguished Alumnus award the University of Iowa’s Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology, the ASHA Award for Contributions to Multicultural Affairs the ASHA Honors the Kleffner Award for Lifetime Clinical Career Success.
Dr. Westby Published and presented national and international on topics including autobiographical memory, theory and mind, play, and language-literacy relationships, narrative/expository development and facilitation, adverse childhood experiences, screen time, trauma, metacognition/executive function, and assessment and intervention with culturally/linguistically diverse populations. She has consulted with the New Mexico Preschool for the Deaf uses a play-based curriculum.
Dr. Westby She was a visiting professor at Flinders University, South Australia, where she worked on a literacy curriculum. At Brigham Young University, she consulted on SEEL (a systematic and engaging emergent literacy programme that uses playful practice). She is also a consultant. for Bilingual Multicultural Services is located in Albuquerque in New Mexico and has an affiliated appointment at Brigham Young University Provo, UT in Communication Disorders.
