Viktor Emil Frankl, MD, PhD, Austrian psychiatrist, neurologist, and Holocaust survivor. Frankl Logotherapy, a form existential analysis, was created by Mark Twain. "Third Viennese School of Psychotherapy". He obtained his MD- and PhD-degrees from the University of Vienna. There he studied psychiatry as well as neurology, with a focus on suicide prevention and depression.
His best-selling book Man's Search for Meaning (published under a different title in 1959: From Death-Camp to Existentialism, and originally published in 1946 as Trotzdem Ja Zum Leben Sagen: Ein Psychologe erlebt das Konzentrationslager, meaning Nevertheless, Say "Yes" To Life: A Psychologist in Concentration Camp). This is his account of his experience as a concentration camp prisoner. It reveals how he discovered the importance of finding meaning in all aspects of life, including the most horrific. And thus, the reason to live. Frankl He was an important figure in existential psychotherapy and a source of inspiration for humanistic psychologists.
