Craig Jones – Down Under Leg Attacks
Craig Jones At the 2017 ADCC in Finland, he had undoubtedly the greatest breakout performance of any grappler. He quickly submitted many of the top contenders and nobody knew who he …..
Craig Jones Was A purple belt living in the middle of nowhere, Australia – where Koala Bears are as common as squirrels are in the U.S. training on a continent where no one had ever won a medal as a Black Belt at the World Championships. After his coach told him that he wasn’t even allowed to roll with anyone not affiliated with their very small gym, he left and started training in a garage – in Australia – with beginners as a purple belt just 2 years ago.

Imagine, laughing, a skinny purple belt vying for the legendary Murilo Sana or Leandro Lo. Or a gangster from West Linn Oregon, Chael Sonnen. They would surely murder him…
Sometimes, what seems like a huge lack of resources in sports, business or life can turn into an amazing advantage if you have the will to do so. Often the guys who are too naïve to know they don’t have a chance – have a chance, a great chance. Craig, spent hours studying every match on Youtube and worked tirelessly on his leg attack system.
The 26-year-Old has won submission victories against Leandro Lo and Murilo Santana as well as Nathan Orchard and Darrah Oconaill. The future looks bright Jones As the pro event invites continue to come. Jones He has won two sub victories in Submission Underground since May. One at SUG 4 against Micah Brakefield, and one at SUG 6 against Ben Egli. He competed in EBI14 and reached the finals with the red-Hot Gordon Ryan nearly taps the ADCC Champ with an egregious armbar in overtime
How to Create the System
He came up with first attacks and then he asked “what if they do this..?” He had a counter… again and again… He trained with local partners and became one the most skilled leg attackers worldwide. There was a hint of where he was in May, 2017 when he paid his own way and competed at EBI 11, he defeated very tough 10th Planet Veteran Nathan Orchard, then submitted one of the best competitors from Europe: Darragh O’Connell via Kneebar.
The submission-Only one type of competition seems to suit. Jones’ jiu-He is the best at jitsu, because he has a great understanding of the leg-Attack game. Heel hook is the reason that seven of his 11 wins this year were by him. This strategy, which he prefers to pull guard over choosing for top position, has allowed him to climb into many recent no.-Tournaments for gi, including EBI or the prestigious ADCC Championship.
All things came full circle Craig He qualified for 2017 ADCC at the Kazakhstan qualifiers. His first match was against the Great Leandro Lo – the 5x World Champion in 3 different weight classes. Craig He saw the draw, and he said what almost anyone would have said: “Oh F**k.” His initial thoughts were followed by his second. Craig He decided to keep calm and trust his leg attack system.
The match began at Craig Leandro was transformed into a Reverse Heel Hook, and he went full throttle. Leandro pulled it out and he heard a loud snap. Leandro escapes!!! This man was superhuman? Yes… but no. Leandro escaped but his knee must be broken.
He wasn’t the same guy and Craig He was quickly on his back, and he was choked. No one does that – it was a victory by leg attack that only technically was a choke. It did happen, however. Craig JonesA few years prior, he had already begun studying leg attacks in the middle Australia and had defeated one the greatest champions of all.
The next match was against Leandro’s good buddy, Murilo Santana: the man who many feel is the greatest competitor in the world in the gym and a No-Gi World Champion. Well the secret was out… Murilo was very wary of Craig’s leg attacks. Craig Murilo used a fake ankle lock for a jump into a flying triangular. It was the most beautiful submission and nearly everyone who watched it on their computers agreed. “Craig Jones? Who the hell is Craig Jones?”
In the Open Class, he was matched up with the legendary Chael Sonnen – the highest paid MMA figher of all time by most accounts, an incredibly strong wrestler and it wasn’t even fair. Craig He used his system to pull guard and tapped the 220 lb weight wrestler in just over a minute.
It’s the System Craig’s system is very easy to learn. While there are many pieces, he was still able to go from being a Purple Belt to becoming one of the top Black Belts in the country in less than two years. That isn’t to say that everyone who learns it will get as good as him, but they will surely be able to be a lot better than they are and submit a lot of upper belts – even black belts, if they learn it well enough. This stuff isn’t taught anywhere else.

How much does this cost?
That depends. What is it worth to learn from someone who was able to tap out two of the best grapplers the world in his ADCC debut.
What do you think? Craig Would he charge for a private lesson of his own? This is assuming he has the time…
Craig He is always on the move and teaches seminars. His techniques are difficult to find because he lives in Australia.
