This workshop will give an overview on the theory and practice of TFP. It will also discuss its relation to the structure and treatment of severe personality disorder. TFP’s technique will be described as a general strategy, specific technical instruments, and tactical strategies for particular situations and complications. The main considerations are transference, countertransference and technical neutrality as well as interpretation.

Otto Kernberg, MD, Professor of psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College, he is a psychoanalyst. His psychoanalytic theories regarding borderline personality organization, narcissistic pathology and other topics are his most well-known. The Personality Disorders Institute at New York Presbyterian Hospital Westchester Division is his director. He is also Professor of Psychiatry at Cornell University’s Weill Medical College. Dr. Kernberg has been a Past President-The International Psychoanalytic Association President. He is also the Training and Supervising Analyst at Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. Dr. Kernberg is coauthor of 12 books.-Twelve other books by him. His most recent books include Psychotherapy Borderline Personality: A Focus on Object Relations, Handbook of Dynamic and the Handbook of Dynamic Psychotherapy For Higher Level Personality Pathology.
