Ronald David Laing, usually cited as R. D. Laing, was a Scottish psychiatrist who wrote extensively on mental illness – in particular, the experience of psychosis. R.D. R.D. M.D., University of Glasgow. Laing's name comes to mind when one thinks of practitioners who have been most effective at challenging prevailing medical thinking on schizophrenia. He has been practicing psychotherapy for over 35 years and has written 11 volumes.

Laing is a London-based teacher and practitioner. He was formerly Chairman of The Philadelphia Association, was associated with Tavistock Clinic, and was a Fellow at The Foundations Fund for Research in Psychiatry.

Fast forty years. Virginia Satir is a psychotherapist who has also taught. Satir is a co-founder of family therapy.-Four books were published and five more. A number of books are also available about her methods. The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy awarded her the Distinguished Family Therapy Award. 

Satir is the co-The founder of the Mental Research Institute. She was the past president of Association of Humanistic Psychology. Her master's degree was granted in 1948 from the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration.

Joseph Wolpe, MD, A South African psychiatrist, Wolpe was one of the most prominent figures in Behavior Therapy. Wolpe grew up in South Africa, attending Parktown Boys' High School. Joseph His M.D. in 1948, University of Whitatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He was the Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at Temple University Medical School and former Director of Behavior Therapy Unity. He was Professor of Psychology at the Medical College of Pennsylvania.
