The The need to find more effective ways to treat mental health problems is a national challenge in psychology and psychiatry. There is strong evidence that psychedelic medicine can be used to treat a wide range of clinical symptoms. Clinical trials are currently underway in the US and UK. These trials will lead to legalization of MDMA or psilocybin in US clinics for PTSD/depression within the next 2 to 4 year. There is a national need for mental health and medical professionals trained to administer psychedelics within the next few years.-Assisted psychotherapy
This recording will start with a review on the clinical research results regarding psychedelics.-Assistance therapy for depression, anxiety and PTSD.-This is-Substance abuse and life distress. The Multidisciplinary Association of Psychedelic Studies, (MAPS), and the California Institute of Integral Studies, (CIIS) will discuss professional training. The The recording will include some of the teachings from CIIS’ professional training program. This includes neuropharmacology, research foundations and global transformational traditions. It also includes mindfulness practices, therapist competencies and en vivo instruction. After the presentation, there will be a lively discussion about questions such as the need for such training for licensed psychologists and medical professionals, future research and how psychedelics can fit in with the latest innovations within the mental health field.

Janis Phelps, PhD, As the Director of the Psychedelic Therapies and Research Center at the California Institute of Integral Studies Center, Dr. Richardson is a pioneer in the field of psychedelic therapies training. As the Center’s founder, Dr. Phelps Launched the first university-accredited postsecondary institution-Graduate training program in psychedelic therapy. She was the Dean of Faculty of six departments of doctoral studies at the CIIS School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Her 2018 journal publication, Guidelines and Competencies for Training Psychedelic TherapistsThis chapter discusses best practices in academic training for mental and medical health professionals. These ideas are further developed in the 2019 chapter. “Training Psychedelic Therapists” In The latest developments in psychedelic medicineEdited by Ben Sessa and Michael Winkelman. Dr. Phelps Heffter Research Institute Board Member. The institute has performed highly influential psilocybin research.-assisted psychotherapy research since the 1990’s. As a licensed clinical psychologist, she was a major contributor in the creation of a national accreditation panel for psychedelic psychotherapists. She also helped to scale effective training programs to meet the growing demand for well.-Specialized in psychedelic medicine, mental health professionals and other medical professionals. Dr. Phelps Maintains a private practice in Mill Valley (CA).
