Professor Luís Heredia Gracie Family friend for decades. His dedication to the cause and his refined technique make him one of the pillars in Brazilian Jiu.-jitsu revolution.
Luis Heredia grew up in a very tough neighborhood, The Copacabana section of Rio de Janeiro Brazil, in the 1960s & 1970s. He fought every day in the streets – not because of his desire to but because he had no choice. That’s just the way things were at that time and place – Brazil is and was the machismo capital of the world. It was kill or die – you would be the victim of more aggression if you back down. He fought on the streets and won sometimes, but he also lost sometimes. Like most everyone else.

But Luis He had a unique advantage that no one can replicate: he lived very close to the Brazilian inventors. Jiu Jitsu – The Gracie Family.
Chance Meeting…
Rickson Gracie was the undisputed king of 1970s Rio de Janeiro. He was a muscular 190-pound man. His confidence in Vladimir Putin meant that he could win any fight with anyone who disrespected him. According to folklore, he is around 400-0. His family, with whom he was trained daily, couldn’t take on such a challenge.
Ethan isn’t just a competitor, he’s also a trainer and the guys he works with don’t get tired either. He has trained many pro athletes, UFC Fighters and Bellator fighters as well as countless BJJ competitions.
One day Luis He was surfing when he saw the wave he wanted. He jumped up and went, as did the guy in front of him. They collided soon after and both flew their boards into the sea. Luis The other guy jumped up, ready to scream at him and maybe settle the score on the shore if he wanted. He felt the exact same way as the other guy! He yelled back. Luis Without even listening to the guy, Luis Quickly, he realized he was in trouble.
Rickson was the one who shouted back. Whoops. Even though Luis He is known to have won a few scraps in town. He would bring his knife to a fight against Rickson. He could get his teeth pulled out, and possibly have his legs and arms broken. It was time for him to quickly switch tactics Luis Rickson and as Luis Now, “Rickson was in a good mood that day..”. Rickson laughed and invited Rickson to the academy. Luis obliged. He was made a student at the university.
Luis Starts Training Under the Gracies
Luis Training began regularly under the Gracies’ patriarch Helio Gracie. It was taught differently back then. Helio taught his students how to block punch first to get into the clinch. Helio taught many takedowns and stressed them so that all his students were proficient enough to defeat Judo men.
Helio is clearly dissatisfied by the modern world of double guard pulls, see-through windows and other such things.-Looking for the 50/50 advantage. Helio found a game that used far fewer techniques on the ground than the modern one, but was likely far more efficient after the takedown.
His Jiu Jitsu He tried to close guard on the bottom, but it was easy. Luis remembers that Helio said “the only reason to play open guard was because you forgot to close it.” Once in Helio’s closed guard (or anyone from the Gracie Academy) their first option was almost always the same – the cross choke. Helio used to tap everyone using this: His students, rival Judokas twice his size, anyone …. it wasn’t his favorite move. If he missed it, the opponent did not defend it in any way, then he would grab the armbar and the back.
Luis The academy was a place where I spent hours.
Luis I spent hours learning from the first family in jiu-jitsu at the academy. Topping LuisThe game revolves around 1 term – pressure. He puts all of his weight in one point, so that the opponent can’t use it as his school guard.

This would be a good idea for new school material?
Back in those days, belts weren’t distributed like candy today. Luis He held his blue belt for 7 year – that’s training 4-Five times per week. Once Luis When he got his blue belt, he achieved his first goal: to be able to take care of himself on the streets. He discovered a new passion for art, and dedicated his life to it.
What does the best have to say about it? Heredia…
“I Trust Him, He Is My Black Belt, He Is A Great Teacher, I Highly Recommend Him”
Rickson Gracie is the Greatest BJJ Practitioner Ever
“I’ve Known Him For Over 30 Years – For Months, myself, him and Helio Gracie slept on the same mats”
Professor Pedro Sauer is the World Famous Rickson Gracie Black Belt
“Luis Heredia Is One Of The Best Instructors In The World”
Gerry Costa “Kid Peligro”, One of the most influential BJJ Authors
Luis He has a few principles that he adheres to
1. Closed guard: Keep the opponent at bay and make him stand straight.
2. If you are on top, make your opponent carry your weight. This will allow him to think only about lifting the pressure. It will also give you many opportunities to attack.
No matter where you may be, this is the best advice. LuisOur goal is simple…
Make your opponent feel uncomfortable so he doesn’t forget the basics.
Then attack him when he makes an error.
This strategy, if executed correctly, will make you feel:
Younger. Faster. Stronger.
Your opponents. It makes them even worse. It works in the same way that a strong pass rush on football or a full-court press in basketball make an opponent worse: their inability to react quickly causes mistakes which allows them to capitalize. This is how the best guys do it – those who get their moves recorded, and then put on social media.
Even if your current status is average, you can still learn how to be great in BJJ. Being great in BJJ – the guy who everyone in the gym tells their friends about, the guy the teacher tells other teachers about – is a skill… and you can learn it. Luis He can teach you how to do it, just like he learned from Helio and Rickson.
Concepts, not Positions: You haven’t Seen Jiu Jitsu Taught this Way
When Luis He teaches BJJ not in the same way as other instructors. He wants you to be able to understand why things work. He explains sequences, and the moves are secondary. He secures his position by crossing to the other side. This DVD series teaches you how to play the game. “Pure Jiu Jitsu” He might even show 4-Five options are available to complete the task (and all of them work), but his main focus is on creating the right pressure to keep them there and make it easy for them to finish. Although the instructions are very different than what you have seen, the amazing results are just as impressive.
