David Suh – How to Be Photogenic in 30 Days (Cohort 4)
What do I need for this course? Do I need a pro camera?
This course was designed to be used with a phone camera! You can very much use any camera you want in the weekly “missions” but you certainly do not need anything more than an iPhone as a camera. Along with your phone, you’ll need one more thing for this course and that is… a phone tripod! Here’s the Amazon link to the one I use and it’s only $21 (this is a cheeky affiliate link like the oh so blogger I am).
Should I take this or a photography course?
It depends on what you’re wanting to learn! If you want to learn to use a camera and photograph others, you can check out my photography 101 course, but this course is focused on how you can photograph yourself in a way that YOU love. However, it doesn’t mean this course can’t benefit a photographer.
I’ve been a photographer for 7 years before I actually started taking seflies and self-portraits. For 7 years I had zero intention of wanting photos of myself and possibly even a negative relationship to taking a selfie on my phone.
It wasn’t until my 8th year during quarantine that I truly sat down and started taking photos of myself and realized what I’ve been missing out on. From a self-learning perspective, you will grow immensely in understanding your beauty & confidence. From a photographer-learning perspective, you will grow exponentially by ACTUALLY understanding what your clients/models/subjects go through in front of the camera and that empathy will change your game.
Should I take this or a modeling course?
Just like above, it really depends on what you’re looking for, but I can assure you that this isn’t a “modeling” course – I would be misleading someone like that! If you’re serious about learning how to model, I recommend checking out Coco Rocha’s Model Camp. But if you want to learn how to pose for YOU and YOUR photos for YOUR empowerment – this is the class.
Can you take the course if you are overseas/international?
Yes! Because all of the course material is pre-recorded this course can work for people across various time zones. As for Live components like the weekly open office hours, I’ll have those recorded and they’ll forever live in the resource library for you to watch at your convenience anytime!
I’m a photographer already, what can I learn?
That’s great! You get to focus on every other goodness in this course! Learn what it means to identify beauty for yourself, be confident & comfortable in FRONT of the camera by re-defining posing, and lastly using selfies as a way to empower you!
What’s the curriculum?
Ooh you better get ready to learn because you are about to learn quite a bit in this course!
Week 1: Re-defining Photogenic & Beauty
Learn how to see your beauty in a way you never saw before and gain a mindset that helps you use photos as a way self-expression.
Week 2: Becoming a Model
This is when we really get down with the technicalities! Be ready to MOVE with me because we going to more bones you didn’t know you had. You’ll be learning my definition of posing, why it makes it more sustainable and accessible to anyone, how to never run out of poses, how to find your angles, and how to get comfortable in front of the camera.
Week 3: Becoming a Photographer
You’re learning to become a little mini-me as a photographer and being prescribed a photographer lens to look through. You’ll learn about lighting, how it affects the whole mood, how to find flattering light, how to look for the right background, and how background can actually tie in with modeling to give you even more poses.
Week 4: Putting it All Together
This is the moment we’ve been all waiting for – the final countdown. You’ll meet your biggest challenge yet in this week (which I won’t spoil) and you get to watch the 3 live students tackle it first before you have to for your week’s mission. It truly puts everything you learned to the test.
Week 5: EditingÂ
In the last week, we end off with learning about everything editing on the phone and I walk you through 3 different edits.
where do we access the course?
You’ll be receiving a welcome email once you purchase the course and in that email will be your access to the platform we’ll be using called Circle. This is where everything will be held! The pre-recorded classes themselves, the Live Office Hours, to the week’s Missions, Mission Feedbacks, and even the whole community will be there as well.
How much time do you recommend spending each week on this course to maximize learning?Â
I would say at least 5 hours a week over the 5-week course. Of course, everyone’s technical levels are different, so it might take you shorter or longer.
Here’s how I would break down the 5 hours a week:
Weekly Lessons: 40-minutes
Mission of the Week: 2-hours
Live Office Hour: 1-hour
Study Session: 1-hour
Making friends/asking questions in the community: 30-minutes
Total time: approximately: 25 hours
