One of the hallmarks of the traditional Chinese arts, is the level of development that a practitioner takes on. The expression is 苦中樂, meaning that there is a discovery of joy that can only come from the bitter, hard work others shy away from. The recognition that there are other skills than the ones we have learned is important if we can get past our weaknesses and work hard to reach our Post Heaven potential.
Filmed in Zurich (Switzerland) over four classes Andrew Begin with exercises to loosen and stimulate the tendons, before moving on to muscle strengthening and coordination building exercises. The body’s demands will test the mind and help participants find their purpose. Is it possible to discover the joy in hard work that is painfully difficult? Can we accept our urge to quit and continue? Can we build the strength of character to embody 活著練死了算—practicing as long as we live, only quitting when we die?
