Bessel A. van der Kolk, M.D., is a clinician, researcher and teacher in The area of post-Traumatic Stress. His work combines neurobiological, psychological, psychodynamic, and interpersonal aspects to the trauma impact and treatment.
Dr. van der Kolk His collaborators and he have published extensive research on the effects of trauma on developmental processes, including borderline personality, dissociative disorders, and self-injury.-Cognitive development, trauma psychobiology, and mutilation. He is the founder of The Trauma Center in Brookline, Massachusetts and President of Trauma Research Foundation promotes scientific, educational and clinical research projects.
His 2014 #1 New York Times The best seller The Score is in the Body: Brain, Body, and Mind. in The Treatment of Trauma, transforms our understanding of traumatic stress, revealing how it literally rearranges the brain’s wiring – specifically areas dedicated to pleasure, engagement, control, and trust. These areas can be activated through innovative therapies such as neurofeedback, somatically-based therapies, EMDR and psychodrama.
Dr. van der Kolk The former president of International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. He is also a professor of psychology at Boston University Medical School. He frequently teaches at hospitals, universities, conferences and other venues around the world.
