Bessel A. van der Kolk, M.D., is a clinician, researcher and teacher in the area of post-Traumatic stress. His research integrates the developmental, psychodynamic, neurobiological and interpersonal aspects that impact trauma and its treatment.
Dr. van der Kolk His collaborators and he have published extensive research on the effects of trauma on developmental processes, including borderline personality, dissociative disorders, and self-injury.-Cognitive development, memory, and the psychobiology trauma. Over 150 peer-reviewed scientific papers have been published on many topics, including neuroimaging and self-injury, memory and neurofeedback, Developmental Trauma. Yoga, theater, and EmDR.
He is the founder and president of the Trauma Centre in Brookline, Massachusetts.
His 2014 #1 New York Times The best seller The Body Keeps the Score: Brain and Mind, and Body Trauma Treatment, transforms our understanding of traumatic stress, revealing how it literally rearranges the brain’s wiring – specifically areas dedicated to pleasure, engagement, control, and trust. These areas can be reactivated using innovative treatments such as neurofeedback and somatically based therapies like EMDR, psychodrama or yoga.
Dr. van der Kolk He is also the former president of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies and a professor of psychiatry at Boston University Medical School. He is a regular lecturer at universities and hospitals all over the globe.
