Bruno Bettelheim (August 28, 1903 – March 13, 1990) was an Austrian-Born self-Get educated Psychoanalyst His academic career was the bulk from 1944 to 1973 when he worked as a psychologist at the University of California, Berkeley. Murray Bowen (31 January 1913 in Waverly, Tennessee – 9 October 1990) was an American psychiatrist and a professor in psychiatry at the Georgetown University. Bowen was a pioneer in family therapy and a founder of systemic therapy. In the 1950s, Bowen developed a family systems theory. Bowen was employed at the National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda (Maryland) from 1954 to 1959. There he developed the theory that would become the Bowen Theory.[4] Family therapy was still a fringe activity at the time.-The product of theory. Bowen began his research by studying the lives of one child with schizophrenia, a parent. He believed that this could be a model for all children. He began integrating the theories with existing concepts after establishing the field of family therapy. He claimed that none had ever been written about this in the psychological literature. In just two years, what began in the first year was known nationwide.
From 1959 to 1990, he was a clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington DC. Later, he was the director of Family Programs. He also founded a Family Center.
