“What goes Around….” and it&This article will focus on the most recent and important developments in law, ethics, and policy that will affect clinicians from all disciplines. It will start with changes to child abuse reporting obligations and then move to changes for custody evaluators and record.-keeping and maintenance, emerging issues and risks regarding telehealth practice, updates on duties to inform and warn when violent behavior may occur, modifications of laws concerning “retirement” of professionals, receiving subpoenas, testifying in court, risk management for supervisors, suicide risk management, and “selected slippery slopes."
Educational Objectives
- Identify at most three areas of practice where legal/ethical changes were made in the last 5 years-10 years.
- Describe the best strategy to maintain clinical records for client/patient care.
- Two major problems are identified for clinicians who want to offer telehealth services.
- Two major warnings are required for clinicians who are subject to subpoenas regarding client/patient records.
- In court, state the differences between three categories of witnesses.
- Identify two “slippery slopes&rdquo’ of concern to clinicians risk management

A. Steven Frankel, PhD JD, ABPP, An attorney and a clinical psychologist. Law Licensee in California and The District of Columbia. The American Board of Professional Psychology has awarded him the Diplomate designation in Clinical and Forensic Psychology. He completed his PhD at Indiana University. He interned at Columbia University’s Psychiatric Institute.
After finishing your meal,-Time university service, Dr. Frankel entered the clinical practice with both outpatient and in-patient responsibilities. Since 1980, Dr. Frankel’s psychology practice has been focusing on the treatment and diagnosis of posttraumatic stress disorder.-Dissociative and traumatic disorders. In 1990, he began to consult with private psychiatric hospitals that offer trauma treatment programs. He joined Walter and Linda Young to open a unit at Del Amo Hospital in Torrance in 1993 for the treatment and management of dissociative and traumatic disorders. He remained a consultant until July 2000. He has been an ISSD member since 1990, and a Fellow since 1998. He was elected President of ISSD 2001.-02.
