Description
Description:
Trauma is a part of daily life. The traumatizing aftermath of combat affects veterans and their families. One in five Americans was molested as a child; one-fourth of Americans grew up with alcoholics. One in three couples has experienced physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent over three decades working with survivors. He explores innovative treatments—from neurofeedback and meditation to sports, drama, and yoga—that offer new paths to recovery by activating the brain’s natural neuroplasticity.
Educational Objectives
- Discuss and examine how traumatized individuals process information.
- Define how sensorimotor processing can reduce trauma reoccurrence-experiencing.
- Describe the various adaptations to trauma in the early stages of the life cycle.
