Ronald David Laing, usually cited as R. D. Laing, was a Scottish psychiatrist who wrote extensively on mental illness – in particular, the experience of psychosis. R.D. His M.D. was received from Glasgow University. Glasgow University. He created five Axioms. They are:
- It is impossible to communicate without communicating. Communication is a part of every behavior.-verbal communication.
- Every communication has content. In addition, there is 'metainformation', which says how the communicator wants to be understood.
- Communication is a shared effort between all partners. They also have to interpret each other’s behaviours during communication.
- Human communication involves both verbal and Non-verbal communication. Nonverbal communication is available in addition to spoken words.-Part of the communication is the spoken part (gestures and behavior, intonation, etc.).
- Communication between people can be either symmetrical or complementary. This is determined by whether the communication is based in differences or parity.
