James Bugental, PhD, One of the most prominent theorists and advocates for the Existential was he-Humanistic Therapy movement. He received his Ph.D. from Ohio State University in 1948, was named a Fellow of the American Psychological Association in 1955, and was the first recipient of the APA's Division of Humanistic Psychology's Rollo May Award. James He devoted himself to teaching and writing. He was also an Emeritus professor at Saybrook Institute and an Emeritus clinical lecturer (formerly Associate Clinical Professor) at Stanford University Medical School’s Department of Psychiatry. He was awarded the Mentor Society’s first Rollo May Award in 1987. "for contributions to the literary pursuit," He was awarded a certificate in 1986. "in recognition of the distinguished contribution to the discipline of Clinical Psychology" American Psychological Association Division of Clinical Psychology. He was the past president of the Association for Humanisitic Psychology. He also served on the editorial boards for eight professional journals. Bugental has published 150 articles, reviews, comments and chapters in books edited or co-authored.
