Join Dr. Joy Samuels, DMin., LPC-MHSP, NCC and Fellow in Thanatology, for This intensive and practical recording will prepare you to help clients suffering from loss of any kind. Dr. Samuels You will use specific case studies to apply grief loss and mourning theory to daily life. She will focus on the interplay of temperament, personality, and grief responses, both from an individual’s and family system perspective.
The second half of this recording addresses grief reactions and provides practical assessments and intervention strategies to help the grieving person cope with their loss. What does it mean to be grieving? ‘persistent complex bereavement disorder’ Participants will be able to review cultural responses and rituals as they relate to the grieving process. Participants will be able to improve their self-esteem.-They will gain insight into their loss experiences, grieving mechanisms, and further define their professional roles. Participants will be paired with specific family members and clients.-These interventions can be applied in practice.Â

JOY R. SAMUELS D.MIN. LPC-MHSP, NCC, has over 25 years’ experience as a licensed professional counselor, Fellow in Thanatologychaplain and ordained minister. She is a professor at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology and the graduate clinical psychological psychology department at Lipscomb University. She is a licensed counselor and supervises LPC candidates.-MHSP.
Dr. Samuels holds D. MIN. MDIV. Degrees from Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, DC. A M.S. in counseling psychology is also hers. A degree in counseling psychology from California State University Northridge, CA and a counseling certification in substance abuse from Northern Virginia Community College Annadale, VA are two of her additional qualifications. She is an expert in individual, couple and family counseling as well as trauma and bereavement.-masters supervision.
