Mark – Rogue Mangaka for Beginners
What we want to create:
We want to create “The Rogue Mangaka”, a training course that will teach you in workshop-style how to draw Manga, using practical exercises and examples to make each step as easy as possible. We will avoid the lame tutorial style where not enough steps are covered and will go in-depth into the process to really transform you into a talented manga artist.
By the end of this training, you will have created your first original Manga.
What will you learn?
Who are we?
2DAnimation101 is an online school that has been helping beginners to create animations, with more than 50,000+ students over 186 countries. We believe in learning by involving the student in relevant projects that will spike their interest and keep them motivated.
“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn” -Benjamin Franklin.
We truly believe that being part of a project convinces your mind that you are doing something important and relevant and motivates you to take the next step.
We are a couple of dreamers who love to help and who believe that anyone can develop talent. YES. ANYONE. Even if you were not born with the talent, we help you develop it.
We have invested a ton of time in researching scientific proof that if you have a brain and a functional body, then you can learn to draw amazing things and turn them into animation.
“All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them” -Walt Disney.
How will we do this?
I don’t believe in just having an idea and transform it into a product. No. I believe that ideas should be tested before bringing them into the market, and that is why we will be testing, making mistakes, improving the idea and testing again until we have the perfect formula to transform any beginner into a professional Manga Artist.
As mentioned in the video, we are investing time and money in the research required.
This research consists of learning the most about skill-acquisition and quick learning, so we can add all that science and knowledge into the course. All focused on developing the talent of drawing manga, for people who are not good at drawing.
Part of this involves putting our ideas into practice and helping people who don’t have drawing skills to improve and draw decently, and then, scale the skill up to become amazing.
We have found that people get results in the first 20 hours of our techniques because we are applying the concepts from Josh Kaufman, best selling author of “The First 20 hours”.
And I have personally found, after countless hours of 1-on-1 coaching, that students who learn to control emotions and self-awareness, improve and really become great artists, while students who don’t know how to deal with frustration give up easily.
That is why part of our research also involves applying the latest research and findings for positive psychology, happiness, and creativity, to accelerate the learning curve. Authors like: Csikszentmihalyi, Ed Catmull, Richard Williams, Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnston, Charles Duhigg, Daniel Kahneman, Mo Gawdat, Daniel Goleman, among many others.
If you have no confidence and live in an environment that does not support creativity and artistic growth, you won’t get very far, and you will blame your genes, your family, lack of resources, the economy or something else; but, in reality, when you learn how to manage your environment and your emotions, you can become unstoppable and learn anything you want.
All of this emotional management, self-confidence, and esteem development will be included in this training, so you can listen to the audio lessons while you are practicing your drawing exercises daily.
The goal is to have results in any student after the first 20 hours, and then, pump up the motivation until their reach the peak level of becoming a Mangaka (Manga Artist).
Where will the Kickstarter money go?
Most of it will go into equipment, research, and legal fees. Here is a detailed distribution of all the budget:
- Equipment 50%
- Research 15%
- Legal Fees 16%
- Total Kickstarter Fees 5%
- Video Course Production 14%
When will we deliver?
It all depends on when we will have discovered the process that guarantees results for any beginner with absolutely no drawing skills.
We plan to have it on May or June 2018, after we have the budget ready, but it could take less or more than that.
Any supporter will get news on our progress and discoveries. Those who pledge for the “Early Beta Access” will be able to check the lessons we have released, before opening enrollment the course. (First lessons will be released on May, but not 100% of the course).
Do I need experience drawing to learn Manga?
No. Not at all.
The purpose of this training is to help any dreamer out there, who always wanted to draw amazingly great anime characters, to become a manga artist even if they have NO SKILL at all.
But in order to achieve that, we need to work on your mindset, because the biggest thing holding you back is your thoughts and emotions, the belief that you cannot achieve this. We will help you change that, with scientific proof and you will start getting the courage and motivation to become amazing in drawing manga.
What are the requirements or equipment needed?
At the very least, you need to invest in 4 things:
- Pencil – Any pencil will do, you just need to be able to have a tool to draw.
- Paper – Any paper will do, pick your favorite.
- Patience – You will get results super fast, but results are not instantaneous, you won’t become great in 5 mins, you will need to at least put in 12 weeks to really have a significant change.
- Time – This is the most important and probably the harderst to get. You need to organize your life in order to have at least 1 hour of practice every day, 5 days a week.
If you can afford it, we recommend:
- A drawing Tablet – To draw in your computer, so your work can be shared instantly for feedback, and you can save your work in the cloud.
- Drawing Software – We recommend Photoshop, but if you have a tight budget, you can use MediBang Paint Pro (it’s free).
- Xtra Time – To really become awesome, we recommend 2-3 hours of practice every day, 5 days a week.
Stretch Goals
Risks and challenges
The only real challenge is equipment, research and time. We will eventually get the equipment we need, and enough iterations of the process of testing, improving, testing, improving, with time. We believe it can take us up to 2 or maybe, 4 years to achieve this on our own. But, all of this can be accelerated to a few months with your support. So, THANK YOU!
